Louisville Clay (LC) is an association of regional ceramic artists dedicated to enriching individual creativity through a supportive community of peers and to enhancing the understanding and appreciation of ceramic art.

In June of 2002 a group of local potters came together to form an association. Our main goal is to help potters grow professionally and provide a supportive network. The bi-monthly meetings have been varied. We occasionally ask for volunteers to do a 30-minute slide presentation and/or talk about their work and philosophy. The presentations give members an opportunity to view works by the ceramic artist and to ask questions about the processes and techniques used in the creation of their work. We have also had mini-workshops demonstrating certain techniques. Normally we share a potluck supper and conduct business afterwards, then move on to the feature of the evening. The locations of our meetings vary each time. Besides meeting at members’ studios or homes, we have had occasion to meet a Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft, University of Louisville, and Indiana University Southwest.
Louisville Clay sponsors one to two major workshops per year. We partnered with U of L and 21C to bring Beth Cavener Stichter to Louisville. Recently we brought Seth Payne for a workshop held at U of L. Lana Wilson is currently on our agenda for May of 2010.
Our first group pottery sale took place in Frazier Hall at Bellarmine University in October of 2005. In June of 2009 we held our 4th annual sale outdoors across from the Bardstown Road Farmer’s Market. All members are invited to participate in this event.
A juried show of members’ work took place at the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft. We hope to make this an annual event. There is also one non-juried show per year.
